Origin, Biogenesis, and Activity of Plant MicroRNAs
نویسنده
چکیده
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are key posttranscriptional regulators of eukaryotic gene expression. Plants use highly conserved as well as more recently evolved, species-specific miRNAs to control a vast array of biological processes. This Review discusses current advances in our understanding of the origin, biogenesis, and mode of action of plant miRNAs and draws comparisons with their metazoan counterparts.

Biogenesis, turnover, and mode of action of plant microRNAs.
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small RNAs that control gene expression through silencing of target mRNAs. Mature miRNAs are processed from primary miRNA transcripts by the endonuclease activity of the DICER-LIKE1 (DCL1) protein complex. Mechanisms exist that allow the DCL1 complex to precisely excise the miRNA from its precursor. Our understanding of miRNA biogenesis, particularly its intersection with...
متن کاملBIOGENESIS AND MODE OF ACTION OF PLANT miRNAs
This review focuses on the biological role of one class of plant small RNAs, ~22-nt microRNAs (miRNAs). The majority of plant miRNA targets are genes encoding the effector factors of cell signaling pathways. The regulation of their expression is necessary for both ontogenesis and rapid response of plants to biotic and abiotic stress factors. We also summarized current views on the biogenesis an...

متن کاملMethylation as a crucial step in plant microRNA biogenesis.
Methylation on the base or the ribose is prevalent in eukaryotic ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs) and is thought to be crucial for ribosome biogenesis and function. Artificially introduced 2'-O-methyl groups in small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) can stabilize siRNAs in serum without affecting their activities in RNA interference in mammalian cells. Here, we show that plant microRNAs (miRNAs) have a naturall...
متن کاملKH domain protein RCF3 is a tissue-biased regulator of the plant miRNA biogenesis cofactor HYL1.
The biogenesis of microRNAs (miRNAs), which regulate mRNA abundance through posttranscriptional silencing, comprises multiple well-orchestrated processing steps. We have identified the Arabidopsis thaliana K homology (KH) domain protein REGULATOR OF CBF GENE EXPRESSION 3 (RCF3) as a cofactor affecting miRNA biogenesis in specific plant tissues. MiRNA and miRNA-target levels were reduced in apex...
